Wine-Eyed Jill Dahlia is a mesmerizing ball-form variety beloved for its ever-shifting palette and distinctive center - a true chameleon—perfect for cutting gardens, floral design, and soft-toned borders.
Origin: Introduced in 2013 and hybridized by J.J. Vieut (Netherlands).
Characteristics:
- Color: A blend of peach, pink, apricot, and sometimes lavender, with a deep wine-purple center. The coloring makes it a versatile addition to bouquets and cut-flower arrangements.
- Form: Ball—tightly arranged petals in a rounded, symmetrical shape.
- Bloom Size: About 4 inches (10 cm) across.
- Height: Grows to approximately 3 to 3.5 feet (90–105 cm), with sturdy stems that hold blooms well above the foliage.
- Performance: Blooms from midsummer to frost. Best with regular deadheading. Ideal for cutting, though multiple plants are recommended for fuller displays. Long stems and great vase life (4 or more days).
Wine-Eyed Jill is often described as “dainty but dramatic”—its compact form and shifting tones make it a favorite for romantic arrangements and painterly garden palettes.
