The Schneckenstein dahlia is a charming and reliable heirloom variety that brings a sun-warmed, vintage glow to the late-summer garden. Introduced in 1978 by the German hybridizer Helmut Wolf, it has remained a favorite for decades due to its sophisticated color transitions and exceptional garden presence.

  • Color: Salmon Pink / Coral. A warm, luminous salmon-pink that shifts from a soft peach at the petal edges to a deeper rosy or slightly magenta center. The tones evoke a "sun-kissed" effect that pairs beautifully with burgundy or silver foliage.
  • Form: Decorative (ID/FD) or Semi-Cactus (SC). Most often classified as a Decorative type, featuring broad, double blooms with petals that can sometimes twist slightly, lending it a soft and romantic silhouette.
  • Bloom Size: Small or Medium (BB/B). Flowers typically reach a generous 5 inches (12–13 cm) in diameter, offering a balanced size that isn't too heavy for its stems.
  • Height: Medium. Grows to approximately 3 to 3.5 feet (90–110 cm) tall. Its sturdy stems hold the blooms upright, though some light staking is recommended to support its prolific flowering.
  • Performance: Reliable Garden Heirloom. Praised for being a low-maintenance and steady bloomer from midsummer until the first frost. Its long, clean stems make it an excellent choice for cutting, while its robust nature ensures it holds up well in mixed borders.
