Scaur Swinton Dahlia is a show-winning formal decorative variety introduced in 1998 by Eric Wilson in the UK.
Characteristics:
Form: Formal Decorative (FD) — The ray florets (petals) are generally flat, broad, and smoothly arranged in a regular pattern that curves gently toward the stem. This gives the bloom a classic, full, and slightly rounded appearance.
Color: Dark Pink (DP), often described as Coral-Pink — The color is complex and dynamic. It is frequently called "guava-colored," "watermelon pink," or "deep coral," with shades of rose and pink. It may show deeper streaks of raspberry or salmon and can shift slightly toward blush or lighter pink later in the season.
Bloom Size: Medium (B) — Typically measures 6 to 8 inches (approx. 15–20 cm) in diameter, making it a substantial bloom perfect for larger arrangements.
Height: Tall — Grows vigorously to about 4 to 5 feet (approx. 1.2–1.5 meters) tall.
Performance:
- Recognized by the American Dahlia Society and a frequent winner in shows.
- Vigor and Stem Quality: It is known as a strong grower with super sturdy and long stems, which is ideal for cutting.
- Aesthetic: Its large, color-shifting, and highly pigmented blooms make it a staple for market bouquets and wedding floral work.
- Production: It is a prolific producer of blooms throughout the mid to late season.
