The Sandia Gold dahlia is a radiant and award-winning variety introduced in 2024 by the legendary hybridizing team Steve and Sandy Boley of Birch Bay Dahlias. It is highly regarded for its refined, sculptural form and won the prestigious Hart Medal in 2021 during its trial phase.
- Color: Yellow (YL) / Golden. A vibrant golden-yellow that can shift to a soft, buttery yellow as it "cups" in the evening. Some growers note delicate coral brushstrokes on the underside of the petals, adding a warm, multi-dimensional depth.
- Form: Waterlily (WL). Known for its exceptional "cupping" ability, creating a deep, symmetrical bloom that resembles a peony or a tulip from certain angles.
- ADS Classification: 7302 (Small Waterlily, Yellow/Light Blend).
- Bloom Size: Small (BB). Flowers typically measure around 4 to 5 inches (10–12.5 cm) in diameter.
- Height: Medium to Tall. Usually grows between 3.5 to 4.5 feet (105–140 cm) tall.
- Performance: Show-Stopping Exhibition Flower. Celebrated for its perfectly proportioned, strong stems and its ability to hold its precise waterlily shape. It is a reliable, early bloomer that is expected to be a mainstay on the exhibition bench.
