The River’s Watermelon dahlia is a stunning and high-achieving variety introduced by hybridizer Eugene Kenyon in 2021. It is celebrated for its unique star-like form and luminous coloring, notably winning the prestigious Derrill W. Hart Medal in its year of introduction.
- Color: Lavender (L) / Light Blend. Despite the name "Watermelon," it is classified as lavender, often displaying a butter yellow base with a joyful brush of watermelon pink or deep pink edges and striations.
- Form: Stellar (ST). This form is characterized by narrow, pointed petals that recurve toward the stem, giving the bloom a distinct star-like appearance. ADS Classification: 7008.
- Bloom Size: Small (BB). Blossoms typically range from 4 to 6 inches (10–15 cm) in diameter.
- Height: Medium to Tall. Usually grows between 2.5 to 5 feet (75–150 cm) tall depending on garden conditions.
- Performance: Vigorous and Prolific. Praised as a "workhorse" for its high volume of blooms and sturdy stems. It is highly valued by floral designers for the depth of color and "shimmering" quality it adds to bouquets.
