Rivers Dark Chocolate

The River’s Dark Chocolate dahlia is a moody and sophisticated variety bred by Eugene Kenyon of River’s Dahlias. It is highly prized for its intense, non-fading color and its dual utility as a standout show flower and a high-production cut flower.

• Color: Dark Red (DR) or Deep Burgundy. An incredibly rich, dark red that maintains its depth without fading in the sun. It is noted for having long stems and rarely showing a green eye.
• Form: Formal Decorative (FD). Features a symmetrical, well-organized arrangement of petals that creates a polished, fully double bloom.
• ADS Classification: 4009. (M-FD-DR).
• Bloom Size: Miniature (M). Blossoms are typically around 2.5 to 3 inches (6–7.5 cm) in diameter.
• Height: Medium to Tall. While some growers report a compact height of 1.5–3 feet, most sources find it reaches 4 to 5 feet (120–150 cm) in the garden.
• Performance: Productive Show & Cut Flower. Praised for being exceptionally floriferous with long, sturdy stems. It is bred to meet strict ADS judging criteria but remains a favorite "workhorse" for floral designers due to its deep, velvety tones.
