The Rhubarb and Custard dahlia is one of the most popular and whimsical varieties on the market, bred by the renowned Dr. Keith Hammett in New Zealand. It is celebrated for its truly unique, multi-tonal color palette and its status as one of the most prolific bloomers available—making it a "flower arranger's dream" and a favorite for pollinators.
- Color: Apricot, Red & Cream. Features soft apricot-pink outer petals with a distinct rhubarb-red ring encircling the center. The "collar" consists of creamy custard-colored "twizzles" that often sport delicate lavender tips, creating a color combination unlike any other variety.
- Form: Collarette. An open-centered form with a single row of outer petals and a decorative inner ring (collar) of shorter petals surrounding a central disc. ADS Classification: CO (Collarette).
- Bloom Size: Small (BB). Blooms are perfectly sized for bouquets, typically measuring 4.5 to 5 inches (11.5–12.5 cm) in diameter.
- Height: Tall. Well-behaved plants reach a height of approximately 4 feet (120 cm).
- Performance: Prolific & Resilient. Praised for being an exceptionally free-flowering variety that produces an endless parade of blooms all season long. Despite their delicate, "dessert-like" appearance, the flowers are remarkably tough, offering an excellent vase life and standing up well to the elements.
