R Mona Dahlia is a fiery formal decorative variety celebrated for its saturated scarlet-red blooms and lush, voluminous form. It is a beautiful, highly productive waterlily dahlia, believed to have been bred in Canada, possibly by Ralph Hellens.
Characteristics:
Form: Waterlily (WL)—The fully double blooms have a high petal count and a semi-open form that is about half as deep as it is wide, giving them a delicate, almost saucer-shaped appearance. It is sometimes broadly classified as a Small Decorative Waterlily.
Color: Red/Cherry-Red/Raspberry—The colour is a captivating, intense cherry-red or scarlet-red when young, which tends to soften and take on a more raspberry or slightly pinkish hue as the bloom matures. The undersides of the petals may be a lighter shade, almost white.
Bloom Size: Classified as a Small (BB) or Miniature (M) Decorative, with blooms typically measuring around 4 to 5 inches (10 to 14 cm) in diameter.
Height: A tall, vigorous grower, often reaching 3 to 5 feet (90–150 cm) in height.
Performance: Prolific bloomer from midsummer to frost. Excellent vase life and garden presence. Slow to “eye” when starting from tubers, but once established, it’s a powerhouse.
