The Preference dahlia is a timeless and enduring heirloom variety introduced in the Netherlands in 1911. It is a legendary garden "diamond," celebrated for its sophisticated ombre color palette and exceptional resilience against wet weather—making it a staple for both classic cottage gardens and professional cutting beds.
- Color: Peach / Apricot / Pink. A gorgeous, three-tone gradient featuring bright yellow or orange centers that transition into warm apricot and fade to soft peachy-pink or cream at the petal tips.
- Form: Semi-Cactus (SC). Features elegant, pointed petals that are rolled or quilled for approximately half their length, giving the bloom an architectural, starburst appearance.
- Bloom Size: Small (BB). Flowers typically measure between 4 to 6 inches (10–15 cm) in diameter, a versatile size that anchors arrangements without overwhelming them.
- Height: Medium to Tall. Reaches a mature height of approximately 3.5 to 4 feet (100–120 cm). Its upright, narrow habit allows for closer planting than many other varieties.
- Performance: Exceptional Cut Flower. Renowned as a "prolific workhorse" that produces a continuous abundance of blooms on long, sturdy stems. It boasts a notably long vase life of 6 to 7 days, which is roughly two days longer than the average dahlia.
