The Pipsqueak dahlia is a charming and whimsical variety introduced in 1998, beloved for its vibrant "watermelon" color palette and pollinator-friendly open center. It is a reliable performer that adds a playful pop of color to the front of garden borders and serves as a unique accent in seasonal floral arrangements.
- Color: Pink (PK) / Watermelon. Features glowing raspberry or watermelon-pink outer petals surrounding an iridescent, lighter pink or lavender-pink inner collar, all accented by a cheerful yellow center.
- Form: Collarette (CO). Characterized by a single row of flat outer petals with a contrasting inner ring of smaller, ruffled petaloids (staminodes) forming a "collar" around the central disc.
- Bloom Size: Miniature (M). Refined blooms typically measure around 3 to 3.5 inches (7.5–9 cm) in diameter.
- Height: Medium / Compact. Typically grows to approximately 3 to 3.5 feet (90–105 cm) tall, making it a manageable addition to smaller spaces or the front of a border.
- Performance: Prolific and Reliable. Known for being a "cutie" that is a prolific producer of showy blooms throughout the season. It performs exceptionally well in arrangements for a collarette variety and is a noted magnet for bees and butterflies.
