The Pink Petticoat dahlia is an elegant and romantic variety introduced by Nick Gitts in 2008. Known for its soft, ethereal appearance, it is a favorite for wedding work and cottage gardens, offering a "candy-sweet" two-tone effect that shifts as the blooms mature.

  • Color: White / Orchid-Pink. A beautiful ombré effect where petals emerge pure white at the center—often dusted with tiny cranberry-colored freckles—and transition to a soft orchid-pink toward the tips.
  • Form: Informal Decorative (ID). Features multi-layered, flouncy petals that are casually curved and elegantly reflexed, creating a voluminous "petticoat" look.
  • Bloom Size: Small to Medium. Blooms typically range from 5 to 6 inches (12.5–15 cm) in diameter.
  • Height: Tall. Reaches a stately height of approximately 4 to 5 feet (120–150 cm). Due to its height and large blooms, it requires staking.
  • Performance: Excellent Cut Flower. Highly productive and impactful, producing long, strong stems that are a reliable source for bouquets from midsummer until the first frost. It is noted for a solid vase life of approximately 5 days when harvested three-quarters open.
