The Pinelands Princess dahlia is a showstopping variety known for its whimsical, airy texture and romantic color transition. Introduced by Cyril Higgo of South Africa in 1995, it has become a staple for gardeners seeking a "shabby chic" or fairytale aesthetic due to its uniquely shredded, lacy appearance.
- Color: Pink (PK) / Lavender & White. A dreamy light blend of soft lavender-pink that fades into a creamy white or pale lemon center. The petals are often tipped with a more saturated fuchsia or rose, creating a delicate ombré effect across the bloom.
- Form: Laciniated (LC). A striking form where the tips of the petals are split or fringed (fimbriated), giving the flower a frilly, "toothy," or starburst-like appearance.
- ADS Classification: 2510 (B LC LB).
- Bloom Size: Medium (B). Blossoms are quite substantial, typically measuring 6 to 8 inches (15–20 cm) in diameter, making them a true focal point in the garden.
- Height: Medium. Grows to approximately 3.5 to 4 feet (105–120 cm) tall. It has a relatively compact and bushy habit but still requires staking to support its large, heavy blooms.
- Performance: Exhibition & Garden Favorite. While its fringed petals make it a bit more delicate for high-volume commercial cut work than a ball dahlia, it is a superstar in the "exhibition" world and a beloved "cut-and-come-again" flower for home arrangements. It is praised for its strong stems and consistent, eye-catching character.
