The Mission Marmalade is a vibrant and energetic semi-cactus variety that captures the essence of a summer sunrise. A recent introduction from the prestigious Ferncliff Gardens, it is celebrated for its "zesty" personality and striking ombré petals—making it a show-stopping choice for gardeners who want to add a bold, tropical glow to their landscape and a "wild" texture to sunshine-filled bouquets.
- Color: Orange (OR). An intense and bold deep orange layered over a clear yellow base. As the bloom matures, the colors beautifully soften into a warm cantaloupe and buttery yellow ombré, reminiscent of a "tequila sunrise" cocktail.
- Form: Semi-Cactus (SC). Features broad, pointed petals that are revolute (rolled) for about half their length, giving the flower a spiky yet substantial and airy silhouette
- Bloom Size: Miniature (M). While classified as miniature by the American Dahlia Society, the blooms are quite full and abundant, typically measuring approximately 4 inches (10 cm) in diameter.
- Height: Tall. A robust and stately grower that reaches approximately 4.5 to 5 feet (135–150 cm) tall. It possesses a very upright habit with exceptionally strong, sturdy stems that hold the "spotlight" blooms high without much need for babysitting.
- Performance: Productive Cut Flower. Praised as a "total exception" for those who don't typically grow cactus types, it is a prolific bloomer that yields a high volume of long-lasting flowers all season. It is a reliable garden workhorse that is also noted for being a decent tuber producer.
