Kingsblood

Kingsblood dahlia is a regal and high-impact variety introduced by the Gitts family of Swan Island Dahlias in 2012. It’s celebrated for its deep, velvety saturation and dramatic presence—a true "dark horse" in the garden that adds a moody, sophisticated weight to late-summer and autumnal floral designs.

• Color: Dark Red (DR). A rich, opulent oxblood-red that appears nearly black at the center. The petals have a distinct velvety texture that catches the light, giving the bloom a luxurious, multi-dimensional glow that holds its intensity exceptionally well without fading in the sun.
• Form: Formal Decorative (FD). Features layers of broad, slightly recurved petals that create a full, substantial, and impeccably tidy bloom with a classic silhouette. ADS Classification: BB FD DR (Small Formal Decorative Dark Red).
• Bloom Size: Small (BB). Blooms typically reach about 4 to 5 inches (10–12.5 cm) in diameter, offering a bold and photogenic size that commands attention in mixed arrangements.
• Height: Tall. Grows to approximately 4.5 to 5.5 feet (135–165 cm) tall, with a vigorous and upright growth habit and dark, healthy foliage.
• Performance: Outstanding Cut Flower. Praised for its long, exceptionally strong, and dark stems that provide a seamless transition into the deep-colored blooms. It is a highly productive variety known for its excellent vase life and its ability to yield high-quality, show-standard stems consistently until the first frost.
