Kenora Macop-B dahlia is a dark and dramatic variety hybridized by the renowned Leroux family and introduced in 1993. It’s celebrated for its intense, moody coloring and its unique, "spiky" texture—a high-impact choice for adding architectural interest and a sophisticated, velvety weight to both gardens and floral designs.
- Color: Dark Red (DR). A rich, saturated black-red that appears nearly black at the center. The petals have a distinct velvety sheen that catches the light, giving the bloom a deep, multi-dimensional glow that remains colorfast even in full sun.
- Form: Laciniated (LC). Features long, narrow petals that are split or "fringed" at the tips, creating a feathery, starburst-like appearance with a sense of movement. ADS Classification: B LC DR (Small/Medium Laciniated Dark Red).
- Bloom Size: Medium (B). Blooms typically reach 6 to 8 inches (15–20 cm) in diameter, offering a substantial and eye-catching focal point that commands attention in mixed arrangements.
- Height: Tall. Grows to approximately 4.5 to 5.5 feet (135–165 cm) tall, with a vigorous and upright growth habit and dark, healthy foliage.
- Performance: Outstanding Cut Flower. Praised for its long, exceptionally strong, and dark stems that provide a seamless transition into the deep-colored blooms. It is a highly productive variety with a long vase life, consistently yielding high-quality, show-standard stems until the first frost.
