The Islander dahlia is a breathtaking "dinnerplate" variety that has been a garden favorite since its introduction by Wickey in 1983. It is celebrated for its massive, romantic blooms and a "shabby chic" elegance, featuring slightly twisted petals that create a beautifully tousled, peony-like appearance.

  • Color: Dark Pink (DP) / Watermelon. A vibrant, glowing watermelon-pink with subtle raspberry or salmon-apricot undertones at the center, often fading to a softer cream or pale pink at the petal edges.
  • Form: Informal Decorative (ID). Known for its large, ruffled, and voluminous petals that twist and curl, giving the flower a layered, sculptural look. ADS Classification: 1105 (A-ID-DP).
  • Bloom Size: Large (A) or Giant (AA). Impressive blooms typically measure between 8 to 10 inches (20–25 cm) in diameter, truly earning its dinnerplate status.
  • Height: Tall. Reaches an ultimate height of approximately 4 to 5 feet (120–150 cm) on strong, sturdy stems that support its heavy flower heads.
  • Performance: Show-Stopping Garden Specimen. A reliable re-bloomer and prolific producer from mid-summer until frost; its massive size and "tropical flair" make it a stunning focal point in both borders and large floral displays.
