Hollyhill Cotton Candy

Hollyhill Daydream is a spectacularly large dahlia known for its whimsical, fluffy appearance, making it a dramatic addition to the Hollyhill lineup by Ted and Margaret Kennedy. It was introduced around 2010.

Characteristics:

Form: Incurved Cactus (IC). The petals are tightly rolled (quilled) for most of their length, with the tips curving inward toward the center of the bloom. This gives it a wonderfully textural, spiky, yet soft, 'sea anemone' or 'spun sugar' look.

Color: Dark Pink (DP) / Pink Blend. This dahlia lives up to its name with a soft, dreamy coloration:

• The petals are a beautiful frosted pink or mid-pink, often described as the colour of pink bubblegum.
• The colour gently fades to a creamy white or light yellow toward the center of the bloom, creating a soft, candy-like ombre effect.

Bloom Size: Medium (B) to Large, typically ranging from 6 to 8 inches (15 to 20 cm) in diameter. Some growers report blooms easily reaching 10 inches or more, nearly qualifying it as a Dinnerplate in size.

• ADS Classification: 2405 (B - Medium size, IC - Incurved Cactus, DP - Dark Pink).

Height: A tall, robust plant, growing to 4 to 6 feet (120–180 cm) tall.

Performance: 

• Cut Flower Quality: This is a favourite for cutting, particularly for designers needing large, textural focal flowers. Its strong, upright stems beautifully support the heavy blooms, making it a reliable performer despite its size. The feathery texture and large size make it incredibly eye-catching in arrangements.
• Garden Impact: Its size and unique form make it a wonderful garden specimen, adding a whimsical and eye-catching touch to the back of a border.
