Hapet Old Charm was introduced by Peter Haslhofer in 2020. This highly sought-after variety opens with the sunrise and gently closes at dusk—creating a living rhythm in the garden that feels almost poetic.
Characteristics:
Form:Â Waterlily (WL). The blooms have broad, slightly cupped, and rounded petals that are flat or slightly reflexed, resembling a perfect lotus or waterlily flower. It's also known to cup or close slightly at night and reopen in the morning.
Color: Light Blend (LB) / Antique Blush. The color is a sophisticated and complex pastel blend:
- Primarily a soft, antique blush pink or creamy white base.
- It is beautifully flushed with peach, coral, and pale yellow undertones, especially toward the center.
- Like many dahlias, the exact hues can shift significantly based on temperature, light, and maturity, giving it a perpetually "charming" and ethereal look.
Bloom Size: Small (BB) to Medium (M), typically around 4 inches (10 cm) in diameter.
Height: A good height for a cut flower, growing to about 3 to 4 feet (90–120 cm).
Performance:
- Romantic Cut Flower: 'Hapet Old Charm' is a favorite for florists, often used for high-end wedding and vintage-inspired arrangements due to its delicate petals and soft, romantic colour.
- Unique Form: The perfect Waterlily form is classic, and its tendency to slightly cup makes it a particularly interesting and unique bloom for close inspection.
- Current Status: It remains a fairly rare and highly prized dahlia variety in North America, with many vendors offering rooted cuttings (often from virus-tested stock) rather than tubers due to high demand.
Please note that the listing is for one tuber.
