Hamilton Lillian is a stunning, highly popular dahlia known for its exquisite coloring reminiscent of a creamsicle or a ripe cantaloupe. It was introduced in 1986 by Canadian hybridizer Glen Hamilton.
Characteristics:
Form: It is officially classified by the American Dahlia Society (ADS) as a Formal Decorative (FD) dahlia.
Color: The coloring is a lovely, warm blend of soft peach, apricot, and creamy yellow, with a touch of gold. The official ADS color classification is Orange (OR). This dreamy, watercolor palette shifts subtly based on sunlight, often showing more peach tones in lower light.
Bloom Size: It is classified as Small (BB) by the ADS, denoting a bloom size of 4 to 6 inches (10–15 cm). Many growers find the blooms generally fall in the 4 to 5-inch range.
Height: Relatively short to medium in stature, the plant typically reaches about 3 to 4 feet (90–120 cm) tall.
Performance: A favorite for cut flower enthusiasts and florists due to its long, strong stems and prolific blooming habit. Its shorter, stouter plant stature makes it manageable in the garden, and early pinching is recommended to maximize stem production for cutting. The blooms are known to be quite resilient and hold up well in handling.
