The Genova dahlia is a graceful and romantic variety bred by Kees Nelis in the Netherlands. It is celebrated for its soft, pearly sheen, consistent geometric symmetry, and "Mediterranean charm"—making it a favorite for adding a soothing splash of pastel color to garden borders and elegant floral bouquets.
- Color: Lavender (L) / Lilac / White (W) / Dark Blend (DB). The blooms feature a complex gradient, often opening with a dark purple or plum center that fades into soft lilac or pale lavender at the petal edges. In high heat, the color may deepen to a richer purple, while cooler weather brings out delicate pink and white tones.
- Form: Ball (BA) or Miniature Ball (MB). A perfectly spherical, fully double bloom with neatly inrolled petals that spiral with refined precision. ADS Classification: 6008 (Ball) or 6108 (Miniature Ball).
- Bloom Size: Miniature to Small. Flowers typically measure between 3 to 4 inches (7.5–10 cm) in diameter.
- Height: Medium. Grows to approximately 3 to 4 feet (90–120 cm) tall. Some compact strains may stay closer to 2.5 feet (70 cm).
- Performance: Highly Productive & Early Bloomer. Known for being one of the earliest dahlias to flower in the season, it is a prolific producer of uniform blooms on long, strong stems. Its excellent vase life and romantic "sunset" palette make it a "must-grow" staple for cut-flower enthusiasts.
