The Ferncliff Ebony dahlia is a moody and dramatic variety introduced by David Jack of Ferncliff Gardens in 2011. It’s celebrated for its velvety, near-black coloring and reliable performance—making it a favorite "go-to" for autumn bouquets and high-contrast floral designs.

  • Color: Dark Red (DR) / Black-Red. A deep, rich burgundy with velvety petals that can appear almost black in certain light, often featuring subtle split tips.
  • Form: Mini Ball (MB) or Formal Decorative (FD). Known for its very tight petal formation and symmetrical, rounded shape.
  • ADS Classification: 6107 (Mini Ball, Dark Red).
  • Bloom Size: Miniature or Small (M/BB). Blooms typically range from 2 to 4 inches (5–10 cm) in diameter.
  • Height: Medium to Tall. Grows to approximately 3.5 to 5 feet (105–150 cm) tall.
  • Performance: Highly Productive Garden Variety. Smothered in blooms throughout the season on long, strong, straight stems that hold up exceptionally well in the vase.
