The Crossfield Ebony dahlia is a charming, vintage variety registered in 1955 by W. Summerscales & Son of Crossfield Nursery in England. It is celebrated for its petite, perfectly formed "marble-sized" blooms and deep, moody coloring—making it a long-standing favorite for both exhibition and detailed floral work like boutonnieres.
- Color: Dark Red (DR) / Black-Red. Features a rich, deep burgundy to "blackish-red" tone that often appears more purple in the early season.
- Form: Pompon (P). A tight, perfectly spherical ball shape with petals that reflex all the way to the stem.
- ADS Classification: 6207 (Pompon, Dark Red).
- Bloom Size: Pompon (P). Adorable, petite flowers typically measuring 1.5 to 2 inches (4–5 cm) in diameter.
- Height: Medium. A more compact plant that typically grows to 3 to 3.5 feet (90–105 cm) tall.
- Performance: Excellent Cut Flower & Exhibition Variety. Praised by Floret Flowers for producing a steady stream of blooms on long, strong stems with a reliable vase life of about 5 days.
