The Coorabell Lonny (often misspelled as "Loony") is a high-demand "unicorn" dahlia bred and released by the Wedd family in Coorabell, New South Wales, in 2021. It is named for Lonny Raines and is renowned for its unique, moody color that is notoriously difficult to capture accurately on camera.
- Color: Purple / Burgundy. An exquisite, deep grape-purple with exceptional richness and depth. The color saturation is often best when grown in partial shade.
- Form: Medium Decorative (M Dec). Features a dense, "petal-packed" structure with a beautiful form that holds up well throughout the season.
- Bloom Size: Medium to Large. Blooms typically measure over 160mm (approximately 6.3 inches) in diameter, offering a bold and "larger than life" presence.
- Height: Tall. A vigorous plant that typically grows between 1.2 to 1.5 metres (4 to 5 feet) tall.
- Performance: Highly Sought-After Exhibition Variety. Praised for its strong, tall stems and unique hue, making it a favorite for special events and exhibition-style arrangements. It requires regular pinching and stem pruning to maintain its heavy bloom production.
