Coorabell Jessie is a highly coveted and award-winning dahlia, cherished for its elegant form and its uniquely shifting color palette. Bred in Australia by the Wedd Family, it is consistently praised by florists for its versatile coloring and excellent performance as a cut flower.
-
Breeder/Origin: The Wedd Family (Coorabell, New South Wales, Australia).
Characteristics:
Form: Formal Decorative (FD) / Miniature Decorative (MD) — The petals are densely packed and neatly overlapped, creating a refined, symmetrical, and well-formed bloom. Its smaller size and elegant structure make it a favorite for bouquets.
Colour: Soft Salmon-Pink / Apricot Blend (AB) — The color is famously dynamic and transitional, often described as a soft salmon-pink or peach:
- Seasonal Shift: Blooms typically emerge as a lovely apricot or peachy hue early in the season and gradually deepen into a more defined soft salmon-pink or peachy-rose as the days shorten (late summer/fall).
- Accents: It often maintains a warm, subtle hint of pale yellow near the center, adding luminosity to the pink tones.
Bloom Size: Miniature (M) / Small (BB) — Most commonly classified as a Miniature or Small Decorative, with bloom sizes generally ranging from 3 to 4.5 inches (8–11.5 cm) in diameter.
Height: Medium to Tall, with a common range of 3.5 to 5 feet (105–150 cm). Note: Some sources suggest it is slightly shorter than other 'Coorabell' varieties, making it easier to manage.
Performance: A premier cut flower, widely requested for weddings due to its soft, warm, and highly versatile color. It boasts strong, straight stems and is known to be a prolific, consistent bloomer across the entire season, often starting early on the farm. It is generally considered an excellent and reliable variety for both beginners and experienced growers.
