The Colorado Classic dahlia is a striking and whimsical variety introduced by Calvin Cook in 2001. It is celebrated for its distinctive "twirly" petals, dramatic color contrast, and reliable performance as both a garden standout and a top-tier cut flower.
- Color: Dark Blend (DB). Features ivory to creamy-white petals that are vividly edged and tipped with shades of candy-pink, lilac, or light violet. The colors often soften and blend into a delicate pinky-lavender as the bloom matures.
- Form: Informal Decorative (ID). Boasts wavy, pointed petals that recurve toward the stem, giving the bloom a dynamic, airy, and textured appearance.
- ADS Classification: 3113. A small, informal decorative dahlia in a dark blend of colors.
- Bloom Size: Small (BB). Typically produces flowers ranging from 4 to 6 inches (10–15 cm) in diameter.
- Height: Medium to Tall. Generally grows to approximately 3 to 4.5 feet (90–135 cm) tall. While stocky, it often requires staking to support its heavy bloom production.
- Performance: Prolific and Reliable. Known for being an exceptionally floriferous variety with long, sturdy stems and a good vase life (4–5 days). It is a vigorous grower and a "prolific tuber maker," making it a favorite for those looking to expand their collection quickly.
