Bloomquist KellyAnn is a delightful and cheerful dahlia, celebrated for its unique collarette form and lovely, soft pink coloring. Bred by the highly respected American hybridizer Paul Bloomquist, it provides wonderful structure, great contrast, and a reliable bloom for both the garden and the vase.
Characteristics:
Form: Collarette (CO) — A distinct form characterized by a single, outer row of broad, flat petals (ray florets) surrounding a prominent central disk, which is in turn framed by an inner ring of smaller, often ruffled, petaloids known as the "collar.
Colour: Pink Blend (PB) / Light Pink (PK) — The color combination is clean, soft, and visually striking:
- Outer Petals: A lovely, clear shade of mid-pink or bright rose-pink.
- Collar: The inner ring of petaloids typically displays a lighter, paler pink or sometimes near-white, providing a beautiful contrast to the outer petals and drawing the eye inward.
Bloom Size: Small (BB) / Miniature (M) — Blooms are consistently sized, generally in the 4-inch (10 cm) range or slightly under, making them perfectly sized for the collarette form.
Height: Tall, typically growing between 4 and 5 feet (120–150 cm).
Performance: Highly valued for its sturdy, long stems that hold the flowers upright, making it an excellent cut flower. Collarette dahlias are also fantastic for attracting pollinators (bees and butterflies) due to their open center. It is known to be a vigorous grower and a prolific bloomer throughout the season.
