The Berner Oberland dahlia is a classic and reliable variety introduced by Cor Geerlings from the Netherlands in 1979. It is widely admired for its rich, saturated color and its exceptional garden performance, often being one of the first to bloom and continuing strongly until the first frost.

  • Color: Purple (PR) / Magenta. A vibrant, deep plum-purple or rich magenta with a velvety texture that holds its intensity well in the sun.
  • Form: Waterlily (WL) / Informal Decorative (ID). Most commonly classified as a Waterlily type with slightly incurved, lotus-like petals, though some growers list it as an Informal Decorative.
  • Bloom Size: Small to Medium. Blooms typically range from 4 to 6 inches (10–15 cm) in diameter.
  • Height: Medium to Tall. Grows to approximately 3.5 to 4.5 feet (100–140 cm) tall and typically requires staking due to its vigorous growth.
  • Performance: Highly Productive and Early. Known for its strong, wiry stems and prolific blooming habit, making it an excellent cut flower that pairs beautifully with warm peach and gold tones in arrangements.
