Argyle Ray

The Argyle Ray dahlia is a sophisticated and high-performing exhibition variety introduced in 2001 by Australian hybridizer L.D. Davis. It is widely celebrated on the show bench for its pristine form and reliable performance, particularly in subtropical climates where many other cultivars struggle.

• Color: Lavender (L). A cool, clear lavender-purple that remains consistent from the center to the petal tips. Its clean hue makes it a standout for exhibition displays where color uniformity is strictly judged.
• Form: Formal Decorative (FD). Features a classic, orderly structure with flat, broad ray florets that overlap in a precise, symmetrical pattern. ADS Classification: 1008
• Bloom Size: Large (A). An impressive and substantial bloom, typically measuring between 8 and 10 inches (20–25 cm) in diameter
• Height: Tall. A vigorous grower that typically reaches 3.5 to 5 feet (105–150 cm) in height. Due to its height and the significant weight of its large blooms, it requires sturdy staking to prevent the stems from bending or breaking
• Performance: Premier Exhibition Variety. Highly regarded in the Australian show circuit for its "show-worthy" quality and near-perfect symmetry. While it is a reliable performer, it can sometimes be a slightly slower bloomer compared to more prolific cut-flower varieties, prioritizing flower quality over sheer quantity.
