The Araluen Leatrice dahlia is a dreamy, award-winning variety hybridized by Ron Wilkes in Australia and introduced in the mid-1990s. Highly coveted for its "unicorn" status among florists, it is celebrated for its ethereal coloring and impeccable symmetry—making it a premier choice for weddings and high-end floral design.
- Color: Pink (PK) / Pink Blend. A soft, romantic baby pink with a luminous quality. The petals are famously "kissed" or dipped in gold at the tips, often revealing subtle watercolor-like shifts of lavender and blush in cooler weather.
- Form: Formal Decorative (FD). Features perfectly layered, tidy petals that create a precise and symmetrical bloom with a polished, gemstone-like appearance. ADS Classification: 4004 (Small Formal Decorative, Pink)
- Bloom Size: Small (BB) or Miniature (M). Blooms typically measure between 3 and 4.5 inches (7.5–12 cm) in diameter, a refined size that is highly sought after in the floristry trade.
- Height: Medium to Tall. Grows to approximately 3.5 to 5 feet (105–150 cm) tall. The plant is sturdy and vigorous, though it generally requires staking to support its abundant floral production
- Performance: Highly Coveted Cut Flower. Praised for its long, strong, and elegant stems and an excellent vase life of 8–10 days. While it is a reliable and prolific bloomer, it is often noted as being "hard to come by" because it can be more challenging to divide and store than other varieties.
