The AC Hwy 61 dahlia is a dramatic and unpredictable variety, named after the legendary highway and introduced by hybridizer Ken Greenway in 2015. It is a standout in the field for its moody, dark bronze foliage that provides a stark, stunning contrast to its ever-changing bicolor blooms—no two flowers are ever exactly the same.
- Color: Red and White Bicolor (BI). Features a captivating and irregular mix of deep, velvety red and creamy white. The distribution of color shifts with the light and soil conditions, ranging from mostly red petals to blooms heavily brushed and tipped with white
- Form: Formal Decorative (FD). A full, double bloom with broad, neatly arranged petals that often recurve slightly back toward the stem. ADS Classification: 3015 (Small Formal Decorative)
- Bloom Size: Small (BB). Flowers typically measure 4 to 6 inches (10–15 cm) in diameter.
- Height: Tall. A vigorous grower that reaches approximately 4 to 5 feet (120–150 cm) tall.
- Performance: Striking Landscape and Cut Flower. Highly prized for its long, strong stems and unique dark foliage, which makes the vibrant blooms pop. It is a reliable producer that brings immense personality to both the garden and seasonal floral arrangements.
